Former Punjab Minister Laljit Bhullar Arrested Amid Controversy

New Delhi, March 23: In a significant development in the case surrounding the death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of the Punjab Warehousing Corporation (PWC), former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has been arrested. This action was taken by the Fatehgarh Sahib police following directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Reacting to the arrest, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal expressed her concerns on the social media platform X. She stated, “For a long time, the Punjab government has been trying to protect its minister Laljit Bhullar. As soon as the Home Minister mentioned transferring this case to the CBI in Parliament, Punjab Police arrested the minister within half an hour.”

Maliwal further commented, “The Punjab government is afraid of a CBI investigation. If the minister is investigated, many prominent names will emerge, and corruption will be exposed. It will become clear where the money is flowing. Corruption in Punjab is out of control. This case should be transferred to the CBI for a fair investigation.”

It is noteworthy that Gagandeep Singh Randhawa committed suicide on March 21, which sparked widespread attention. Serious allegations of harassment and mental pressure against Laljit Bhullar were raised following Randhawa’s death. The situation escalated when a video surfaced, reportedly recorded by Randhawa before his suicide, in which he named the former minister as a source of his distress. Following this, Randhawa’s family filed a complaint with the police, accusing Bhullar of harassment, threats, and mental pressure.

Based on the family’s complaint and the evidence presented in the video, the police initiated an investigation, leading to Bhullar’s arrest. This development has intensified political activity in the region.

Earlier on Monday, Randhawa’s wife stated that while her husband died on March 21, no action had been taken by the government as of March 23. She demanded the arrest of the accused and issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the government, warning that if no action was taken, they would take to the streets with their children, willing to make sacrifices.
