Kolkata, March 25: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has turned her attention to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), accusing them of functioning as agents for the BJP, similar to her previous criticisms of the Election Commission.
During a series of three rallies in North Bengal on Wednesday, Banerjee voiced her concerns about the CAPF units already stationed in the state. She stated that every vote cast against the BJP would also serve as a protest against the Election Commission, which she claims has caused undue hardship through its Special Intensive Review (SIR).
While expressing her respect for the CAPF, Banerjee noted that they appear to be acting in favor of the BJP, even carrying the party’s flags. She urged women in West Bengal to take proactive measures to ensure security at polling booths on election days. “If you want peace in West Bengal for the next five years, you must secure the booths for just one day and prevent outsiders from meddling in the elections,” she emphasized.
Banerjee also criticized the Election Commission for transferring bureaucrats and police officials from West Bengal to other states without prior notice. “I am the elected Chief Minister of West Bengal, yet my officials are being transferred without my knowledge. Who will handle essential administrative tasks in the state? Who will provide food during natural disasters like floods or storms?” she questioned, asserting that the BJP’s tactics to undermine her authority would not succeed.
Furthermore, she condemned the SIR, stating it is shameful that citizens of West Bengal are being forced to prove their citizenship after so many years. She highlighted that tribal and marginalized communities have received Logical Discrepancy Notices, expressing her belief that the NRC will be the next agenda in West Bengal. “As long as I am alive, I will not allow anyone to be sent to detention camps,” she vowed.
