New Delhi, February 24: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jayaram Thakur, has strongly reacted to the shirtless protests by the Youth Congress at the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi.
He stated that the Congress leaders have lost their mental balance due to their electoral defeat. He emphasized that opposing Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party is one thing, but opposing the nation is entirely different.
Thakur pointed out that the AI Impact Summit was under the spotlight not just in India but globally, with heads of state from over 20 major countries and leaders from the world’s largest tech companies in attendance. He remarked that the shirtless protests only reveal the true nature of the Congress party.
The Leader of Opposition described the Chief Minister’s statement as unfortunate, asserting that Himachal Bhawan and the Assembly are symbols of the state’s prestige and identity. He insisted that these institutions should not be turned into a hub for conspiracies or a resting place for political agendas.
Thakur criticized the current government’s approach to the economic conditions in Himachal Pradesh, noting that the entire cabinet, including the Chief Minister, traveled to Delhi. However, he expressed surprise that no one met with the Prime Minister or the Finance Minister. Instead, the Congress cabinet was preoccupied with aligning their political equations.
He stated that any assistance for Himachal would come from the central government, the Prime Minister, and the Finance Minister, not from Congress leaders. Yet, no one even made the effort to meet them. Thakur claimed that the Sukhu government’s attitude demonstrates that all they want is to engage in politics while shedding crocodile tears for Himachal’s interests, showing no genuine concern for the state.
Earlier, he had a courtesy meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi, where he discussed the current economic situation of Himachal Pradesh in detail. He presented various financial issues related to the overall development of the state. Thakur expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided by the central government to Himachal Pradesh. He stressed that the center’s cooperation is crucial for the balanced and sustainable development of the state, given its challenging geographical conditions. During the meeting, he urged for maximum financial assistance for the state’s financial stability, infrastructure development, disaster relief, and various developmental projects.
