New Delhi, December 2: Delhi Police‘s Crime Branch has arrested five suspects from Indira Gandhi International Airport in connection with a jewellery theft case registered at Miraj Railway Station in Maharashtra.
All the accused are members of the ‘Sansi Gang’. According to police, on November 30, Inspector Dalip Kumar stationed at Crime Branch received information from Miraj Railway Police Station, Pune about five wanted suspects. The tip-off revealed that all accused were travelling from Goa to Delhi on IndiGo flight 6E542.
The information also indicated that the suspects would arrive at Delhi’s IGI Airport Terminal-1 around 9 pm. Following this, a special team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Amit Solanki, including SI Ankur Yadav, SI Ashok and ASI Sudesh. The team successfully arrested all five suspects from the airport.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Hava Singh, Amit Kumar, Kuldeep, Ajay and Monu, all residents of Haryana. During the arrest, police recovered 177 grams of stolen silver jewellery from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to stealing valuables from passengers’ belongings while travelling in trains. They specifically targeted wealthy passengers in AC coaches and long-distance trains who carried gold ornaments and other valuable items. The suspects have been arrested under relevant sections of law and interrogation continues.
Delhi Police‘s Crime Branch is questioning the accused to trace other gang members and ensure the entire gang is arrested soon.
This case is connected to Pune, where jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh was stolen from a train on November 26. The First Information Report for this theft was registered at Miraj Railway Police Station. Crime Branch officials became active immediately after receiving information about the incident.
The successful operation demonstrates the coordinated efforts between different police units across states in tracking down interstate criminal gangs operating in the railway network.
