Former Himachal CM Jay Ram Thakur Pays Tribute to Gandhi and Shastri
Jay Ram Thakur honors Gandhi and Shastri in Shimla, urging the state government to address employees concerns amid ongoing protests.

Shimla, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jay Ram Thakur commemorated the birthdays of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2. He paid floral tributes at their statues located on the historic Ridge in Shimla.
On Gandhi Jayanti, Thakur participated in a cleanliness campaign, acknowledging the efforts of sanitation workers. He urged the state government to consider their demands with empathy.
Speaking to the media after the tribute, Thakur emphasized that Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, sacrifice, and satyagraha continue to inspire people today. He also remembered Shastri, describing him as a symbol of simplicity, integrity, duty, and strong leadership.
Thakur highlighted Shastri’s famous slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” which he said fosters respect for the nation’s soldiers and farmers, recognizing their invaluable contributions.
When asked about his recent visit to Delhi, Thakur stated he had in-depth discussions with central ministers regarding various development projects related to Himachal Pradesh, the functioning of the current state government, and organizational matters. He noted that many issues concerning governance and party organization were addressed, and feedback on ongoing schemes was solicited to ensure the state benefits.
Thakur criticized the Congress-led state government, claiming it has left employees and pensioners with no option but to protest, despite its claims of being employee-friendly. He pointed out that Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers have been protesting for days over their legitimate demands, yet the Chief Minister and his ministers have not found time to listen to their grievances.
He targeted Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, stating that although a new initiative, the “Mukhyamantri Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana,” was announced on Gandhi Jayanti, it has yet to be implemented. Thakur alleged that senior Congress leaders do not take the Chief Minister seriously and claimed that many programs and schemes are repeatedly postponed due to a lack of time from the party’s central leadership.
Additionally, Thakur accused the Chief Minister of neglecting development projects and focusing primarily on his close associates. He asserted that this has led ministers to frequently travel to Delhi to voice their complaints to the party’s central leadership.
