Five Arrested in Bangladesh for Alleged Attack on Hindus

Dhaka, July 31 – Police in Bangladesh have arrested five individuals accused of attacking members of the Hindu community in Aladadpur Balapara village under Betgari Union. The arrests were made early Wednesday, and the accused were produced before a court in Rangpur Division the same evening. The court has sent all five to jail.

Aladadpur Balapara village falls under Gangachara upazila of Rangpur.

According to a report by The Daily Star, Officer-in-Charge of Kishoreganj Police Station, Ashraful Islam, stated that the Rangpur court has ordered judicial custody for the five accused: Yasin Ali (25), Swadhin Mia (28), Ashraful Islam (28), Atikur Rahman Khan (30), and Saddam Hossain Salim (22). All of them are residents of Magura village in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari.

Superintendent of Police Ashraful further informed that members of joint security forces apprehended the accused from their homes early Wednesday morning. Prior to this, on Tuesday night, one of the victims, Rabindra Nath Roy, had filed a case of vandalism and looting at Gangachara Model Police Station.

The FIR names 1,200 unidentified individuals as accused. Roy alleged that five of his cattle, cash, and gold jewellery were looted. Police stated that the attack on the Hindu community in Aladadpur Balapara took place on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
