New Delhi, June 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received congratulations from around the world for setting a new record as the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history. Among those expressing admiration is Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who wrote an emotional letter honoring Modi as his “friend, big brother, and guide.”
Tobgay began by appreciating the trust shown in PM Modi. He noted, “Since taking office on May 26, 2014, Narendra Modi has completed 4,399 days in office, marking a new chapter in India’s political history. This is a significant moment not just for India, but for the entire world, reflecting the repeated trust that the world’s largest democracy places in its leader.”
The Bhutanese Prime Minister emphasized that this achievement is not merely a political record but a chance to reflect on a relationship that has strengthened over the years. He views Modi as a close friend and a guiding figure whose commitment to public service continually inspires him.
Recalling their first meeting in 2014, Tobgay said, “I first met PM Modi at his oath-taking ceremony. His warmth and simplicity left a lasting impression on me. What began as a formal introduction has blossomed into a deep friendship.”
He also reminded that Modi chose Bhutan for his first foreign visit after becoming Prime Minister. According to Tobgay, this decision sent a clear message about the special relationship between the two countries and Modi’s affection for Bhutan.
Over the years, both leaders have discussed development, governance, regional challenges, and various social issues. Through these dialogues, Tobgay has closely observed Modi’s vision, leadership skills, humility, and remarkable ability to connect with people.
Tobgay highlighted Modi’s simple lifestyle, stating, “Despite his busy schedule, PM Modi always inquires about my family and children, sharing his experiences on health, yoga, and balanced living. These human qualities further strengthen our friendship.”
He explained why he refers to Modi as a “big brother.” Tobgay stated, “In South Asian culture, ‘big brother’ is not just someone older but a person who provides guidance, stands by you in tough times, and shares joy in success. I have always seen PM Modi as such a big brother.”
He characterized the bilateral relationship as based on trust, respect, and cooperation, asserting that under Modi’s leadership, this friendship has grown even stronger. Tobgay expressed confidence that the partnership between the two nations will continue to establish new dimensions of peace, prosperity, and shared development in the future.
