Manama, June 10: Iran has targeted military bases in the Gulf region in response to U.S. military actions. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims to have launched retaliatory strikes on 22 locations, including Jordan and Bahrain. Bahrain’s military has labeled these missile and drone attacks as brutal.
The Bahraini armed forces reported that their air defense system successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial assaults.
In a statement released on the social media platform X, the Bahraini military accused Iran of “continuously advancing its hostile policies” and deliberately targeting civilians with missiles and drones. They emphasized that this constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
The statement further noted that all military units in Bahrain are on high alert and fully prepared to ensure the nation’s security. The military urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid approaching any suspicious objects, particularly debris that may fall to the ground after attacks. They also requested immediate reporting of any such items to the authorities.
Previously, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior announced that warning sirens had been activated across the country. The IRGC claimed to have targeted the U.S. Fifth Fleet stationed in the region.
Amid these developments, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke separately with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia and Turkey. According to the state news agency IRNA, discussions focused on the regional situation following the U.S. attacks in southern Iran. Araghchi condemned the U.S. military actions as violations of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reiterating that Iran has the right to self-defense and that its military is responding to these attacks.
