Dharavi, Mumbai, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A fire caused by an LPG cylinder ignited in Dharavi, Mumbai, injuring four individuals, including two children. Fortunately, there have been no reports of fatalities from the incident.
Authorities reported that the blaze broke out early Saturday morning near the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Club on Sion-Dharavi Link Road, affecting a two-story building in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), local residents managed to extinguish the fire before the fire brigade arrived. The injured were transported to the hospital by police van before firefighters reached the scene.
Emergency services, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), were dispatched to the area. Fire brigade officials confirmed that the fire was under control by 12:10 AM.
Among the injured are two minors, aged five and four. The younger child sustained burns covering eight percent of their body, while the five-year-old suffered five percent burns. The other two injured individuals experienced burns of 15 percent and 30 percent, respectively.
This incident follows a previous fire in Kandivali West, where a commercial building caught fire last month. The BMC fire brigade successfully rescued 11 people from a lodging house on the second floor of the affected structure.
In that case, the fire was reported around 4:14 AM and was contained to nearby electrical wiring and materials at a temporary fruit stall. The blaze impacted approximately 50 square feet of clothing, wooden furniture, and false ceilings on the fourth floor, as well as aluminum and plastic decorative sheets on the building’s exterior.
