Patna, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded near the Mahatma Gandhi Setu in Patna on September 8, as a boat carrying about ten passengers capsized in floodwaters. At least three individuals are reported missing following the accident.
Officials confirmed that seven other passengers were rescued safely after the boat overturned near pillar number nine of the bridge. The incident occurred in the Terasiya Diara area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Gangabrij police station.
Preliminary reports indicate that the boat was returning from Terasiya Diara when it struck a submerged rock, causing it to lose balance and capsize. Some passengers managed to swim to safety, while local residents rushed to the scene to assist in the rescue efforts. The area around Terasiya Diara and the Mahatma Gandhi Setu quickly became crowded with villagers who joined the search for the missing individuals.
In response to the incident, district authorities launched a large-scale rescue operation, deploying a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Vaishali District Magistrate Varsha Singh and Superintendent of Police Shubhang Mishra arrived at the site to oversee the rescue operations.
Despite strong currents, rescue teams continued their search in the floodwaters until late evening. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the accident and the number of people aboard the boat at the time. The primary focus remains on locating the three missing individuals.
