New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani recently met with Major General Bernard Waliaula, the Commander of the Kenya Air Force, in New Delhi. Their discussions centered on strengthening bilateral defense relations. Major General Waliaula is currently on an official visit to India.
During the meeting, both military leaders expressed satisfaction over the growing defense partnership between India and Kenya. They acknowledged that shared strategic interests and a commitment to regional security and stability are bolstering their defense ties.
The officials explored various aspects of enhancing military cooperation, focusing on improving coordination between their armed forces, operational capabilities, and joint mission capabilities. They emphasized the importance of better coordination and interoperability in the evolving security landscape.
To advance this cooperation, they discussed opportunities for training, exchanging experiences, and conducting joint activities. Additionally, the discussions highlighted the mutual commitment of India and Kenya to regional security and stability, particularly regarding maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
In a related incident, the Indian Coast Guard successfully conducted a rescue mission for a Filipino sailor who was injured on board the cargo ship Cornelia Maersk, flagged by Denmark. The incident occurred approximately 87 nautical miles off the coast of Kochi.
Upon learning of the injured sailor’s condition, the ship contacted the Indian Coast Guard for immediate assistance. The Coast Guard’s maritime rescue sub-center in Kochi swiftly planned a medical evacuation operation. Given the emergency, they decided to airlift the injured sailor from the ship. A Coast Guard helicopter reached the vessel under challenging conditions and executed a winching operation to safely extract the sailor.
