
Abu Dhabi, May 17: A fire broke out at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region of the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, following a drone attack. Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office reported on X that the fire occurred in an electrical generator located in the outer area of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, triggered by the drone strike. Importantly, the fire was contained outside the plant’s inner perimeter.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) confirmed that the incident did not affect the plant’s safety or its essential systems, and all units are operating normally. Precautionary measures have been implemented, and the public has been urged to rely solely on official sources for information and to avoid rumors.
No details were provided regarding the source of the drone attack.
On May 5, the UAE reported that some areas were targeted by missiles and drones launched from Iran, a claim that Iran’s military command denied. Iranian officials also dismissed allegations from the UAE regarding attacks, advising the UAE not to fall into a strategy orchestrated by the United States and Israel.
