Chandigarh, May 15: Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father and actor Yograj Singh has landed in serious trouble for using offensive language against women. An FIR was filed against him at the Sector-36 police station in Chandigarh on Friday.
Yograj Singh is accused of using derogatory and vulgar language towards women in the web series ‘Lukkhe,’ which is currently streaming on Amazon. A video clip that went viral on social media has sparked widespread outrage over the abusive language directed at women.
The Punjab State Women’s Commission has taken this matter seriously. The commission wrote to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab on Thursday, urging an immediate investigation. They have demanded action against Yograj Singh, the series’ writer, director, producer, and all other responsible parties under Section 12 of the Punjab State Commission for Women Act, 2001. The commission has also requested a report on the investigation within a week.
Advocate Ujjwal Bhasin has recently filed a complaint against Yograj Singh and others with the police. Additionally, on the same day, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee sent a letter to the Women’s Commission, demanding the filing of an FIR against Yograj Singh and a ban on the entire web series ‘Lukkhe.’
The Congress party’s complaint stated that Yograj Singh, who claims to be an Amritdhari Sikh, has used language that demeans women, which is contrary to Sikh principles. It cites violations of Section 79 of the Indian Penal Code and the constitutional rights of women to dignity.
Yograj Singh, who is active in both cricket and acting, is facing significant backlash on social media following this controversy. Many have accused him of acting against Sikh values. The police are currently investigating the matter, and there has been no official response from Yograj Singh regarding the allegations.
