Jammu, August 31: The father of the minor girl who was a victim of rape and murder in Kishtwar expressed his satisfaction with the investigation being handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch. He emphasized that no case should be registered without his approval.
The father, residing in the Chhatru area of Kishtwar, urged that no legal actions be taken without his consent and thumbprint. In a video that has gone viral on social media, he stated that he learned someone had filed a case in Jammu. He appealed for any legal proceedings to be halted without his approval.
In the video, he is heard saying, “I have heard that someone has filed a case in Jammu. No case should be filed without my thumbprint. The investigation has been handed over to the Crime Branch, and I am satisfied with it.”
Meanwhile, another purported phone conversation has surfaced on social media, where the victim’s father is speaking with lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat, who has filed a petition related to the case. During the conversation, he requested that no case be advanced on his behalf. He reiterated that the matter has already been handed over to the Crime Branch, and he is content with the investigation. “You will be responsible for whatever you do,” he added.
Authorities have neither confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the video.
The incident on August 20, which involved the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl in Kishtwar, has shaken the community. There have been widespread calls for the harshest and most exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has already decided to investigate the case. The NCST issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, the DGP, and the Senior Superintendent of Police in Kishtwar.
