Maharajganj, May 21: Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, farmers in Maharajganj are facing severe fuel shortages, forcing them to spend nights in long queues at petrol stations for diesel. The situation has become dire as people wait for hours to fill their tanks.
One farmer shared, “We have come to the petrol pump to get diesel. There is chaos here due to the shortage. People are sleeping under mosquito nets at the station. We have no idea if diesel will be available or when.” Many farmers were seen waiting with bottles and containers, hoping to secure fuel.
The farmer added, “We are willing to heed all of PM Modi’s appeals, but this is the time for sowing paddy seeds. We need diesel for our pump sets to irrigate the fields. Currently, there is a significant diesel shortage in Maharajganj. We don’t even have enough fuel to operate our pump sets.”
He further explained that the lack of diesel, along with inadequate arrangements for tube wells and canals, has led to a water crisis. “We have to fill our fields with water using our pump sets, but there is a severe shortage of diesel for this purpose. We are unsure what measures the government is taking, as they are not reaching us.”
On May 19, petrol prices rose by 86 paise and diesel by 83 paise per liter. This increase followed another hike on May 15, when both petrol and diesel prices went up by 3 rupees per liter, and CNG by 2 rupees.
