China and Indonesia Hold Second Ministerial Meeting of 2+2 Dialogue Mechanism

Beijing, August 23: The second ministerial-level meeting of the 2+2 dialogue mechanism between China and Indonesia took place on August 21 in Jakarta.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Defense Minister Tang Zhong, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto co-chaired the meeting. Both sides engaged in in-depth strategic discussions and established a series of commonalities.

Wang Yi emphasized the importance of enhancing unity and cooperation between China and Indonesia as significant members of the Global South. He stated that this collaboration extends beyond bilateral relations and plays a leading role in the region and the world.

He further noted that in this new era, China and Indonesia should continue to promote the five principles of peaceful coexistence and the spirit of Bandung, gathering the strength of developing countries to enhance cooperation within the Global South.

Tang Zhong remarked that China is ready to strengthen defense and military cooperation with Indonesia. This partnership aims to bolster security barriers for their respective developments, play a crucial role in regional stability, and contribute to greater certainty, stability, and creativity in the world.

Retno Marsudi highlighted the significance of the meeting amid challenging international circumstances, showcasing the high-level strategic trust and strong desire for cooperation between the two nations.

Prabowo Subianto expressed Indonesia’s readiness to deepen military exchanges with China and strengthen cooperation in areas such as defense, maritime security, cyber security, and combating international crime. He emphasized the commitment to safeguarding regional peace and security while addressing global challenges.

Both parties agreed to enhance awareness among security partners, mutually support each other’s core interests, and jointly resist external interference.

On August 21, Wang Yi co-chaired the first meeting of the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue Mechanism with Retno Marsudi, achieving broad consensus on building a community with a shared future for China and Indonesia.
