Delhi Assembly Speaker Presents Magazine to Lieutenant Governor

New Delhi, August 23: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta met with Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Saturday for an informal discussion.

According to a message from Raj Niwas, Gupta presented a copy of the Delhi Assembly’s quarterly magazine, “Vidhan Chetna,” to the Lieutenant Governor during their meeting.

In another development, senior IPS officer Varsha Sharma has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD). She will replace the current OSD, Shivendra Kant Tiwari. Sharma is currently serving as the Additional Commissioner in the Delhi Police‘s Economic Offenses Wing. Tiwari will take over her previous role.

Earlier, Speaker Gupta addressed students at a technical university in Faridabad, emphasizing that effective laws require accurate facts, reliable research, and grassroots evidence. He urged universities to actively participate in providing this knowledge to legislatures and governments.

Gupta spoke at the inauguration of the Vice-Chancellors’ Conference 2026, held at an international research and study institute in Faridabad. He noted that legislatures create laws, approve budgets, and hold governments accountable, while universities can strengthen this process through research-based recommendations, expert opinions on environmental laws, and increased student participation in democratic institutions.

The two-day conference, themed “Green Campus: Empowering Higher Education Institutions for a Sustainable and Resilient Future,” saw participation from Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President of the host educational group, Dr. H.D. Charan from the Environmental Protection Activity, and various chancellors, vice-chancellors, and faculty members from IITs, IIMs, NITs, and IIITs across the country.

Congratulating the host educational group on its 30th anniversary, Gupta remarked that its motto, “Creating Better Humans,” is even more significant when linked to the responsibility of building a better planet.
