Fake Call Centre Bust in Noida for Crores Fraud in Lapsed Insurance Scam

Noida Police have uncovered a major cyber fraud network running a fake call centre that cheated people of crores of rupees by promising refunds on lapsed insurance policies.

The Face-1 police station arrested three accused identified as Varun Sharma, Madan Gupta, and Pradeep Verma. Authorities seized laptops, mobile phones, PNT phones, call data sheets, and other electronic devices used in the scam.

According to police, this fraudulent call centre operated for six months in Sector-10 of the Face-1 area. The accused frequently changed their location each month to avoid detection. Varun Sharma was the main operator who managed the centre and distributed the illicit earnings.

The suspects contacted victims, falsely claiming to represent insurance or investment agencies, and promised to recover money from their lapsed insurance policies. They purchased data from Just Dial, acquiring details of up to 5,000 people for Rs 10,000. Using this data, they called victims and extracted amounts ranging from Rs 10,500 to Rs 1 lakh under the pretext of investment or processing fees.

Police stated that over 20 complaints have been filed against the gang on the NCRP portal from various states. The stolen money was transferred to fake bank accounts; authorities have frozen 20 such accounts holding approximately Rs 1.2 crore.

Shockingly, a significant portion of the fraud proceeds was used for online cricket betting. Varun Sharma transferred funds to betting accounts, where 20 percent commission was deducted and the remaining 80 percent returned to the accused. The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate is preparing notices for Just Dial and its owner regarding their role in selling data.

The police have registered a case against the three accused at Face-1 police station. Investigations into the company’s involvement and other network members are ongoing, with expectations of further arrests soon.
