Enhancing Higher Education: UGC and AICTE Collaborate for Effective Strategies

New Delhi, August 25: The Union Education Minister, Prakash Javadekar, held a significant meeting with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to discuss priorities and new strategies for the higher education sector. The focus of the meeting was to enhance the effectiveness of the higher education system, strengthen academic institutions, and set future priorities in line with evolving needs.

Discussions also included the current landscape of higher education and necessary steps to increase institutional capacity. The government aims to integrate sports into the holistic development of students in higher education institutions. To this end, the Union Education Minister engaged in high-level dialogue with both organizations.

The meeting placed special emphasis on the ‘Khelo India’ initiative. There was a strong push to promote sports within educational institutions, encourage more students to participate in sports activities, and identify and nurture young sporting talents. It was highlighted that sports should be considered a vital part of students’ overall development alongside education. Efforts are needed to ensure broad participation in sports activities within educational institutions and to provide better opportunities for emerging sports talents.

The objective of the meeting was to strengthen higher education institutions while developing better opportunities and facilities for students in both education and sports.

Notably, prior to this meeting, the Union Education Minister had convened a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Department of School Education and Literacy. This meeting focused on various important issues related to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

According to the Education Minister, the primary aim of the meeting was to review CBSE-related matters. Key aspects concerning the board’s academic framework, examinations, and administrative processes were discussed. Additionally, measures to provide better support for students and teachers were also reviewed.
