Heavy Rainfall Hits New Delhi; Red Alert Issued for Thunderstorms and Lightning

New Delhi, August 25: Heavy rainfall has been pouring down in the Delhi-NCR region since Tuesday morning. Several areas are experiencing waterlogging, prompting the meteorological department to issue a red alert for the entire city for the next two to three hours.

According to the weather department, there is a significant risk of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall in Central Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North Delhi, Northeast Delhi, Northwest Delhi, Shahdara, South Delhi, Southeast Delhi, Southwest Delhi, and West Delhi, with wind speeds reaching approximately 60 km/h.

The rain, which began early in the morning, has submerged roads in many areas, causing difficulties for commuters heading to work. Initially, an orange alert was issued, but this was later upgraded to a red alert.

The weather department also forecasts strong winds (40-60 km/h) along with thunderstorms and lightning in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Ambedkarnagar, Amethi, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bagpat, Ballia, Banda, Basti, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Deoria, Ghazipur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Hamirpur, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Kushinagar, Mahoba, Mau, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Pratapgarh, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shamli, Sultanpur, and Varanasi, with moderate rainfall expected.

Additionally, regions in Kerala such as Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Lakshadweep, Malappuram, Thrissur, and Wayanad; districts in Madhya Pradesh including Chhatarpur, Datia, Gwalior, Niwari, Panna, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, and Tikamgarh; as well as areas in Haryana like Panipat and Sonipat, and Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar, Champawat, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, and Tehri Garhwal are also under similar weather warnings.

The weather department advises residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. They should avoid seeking shelter under trees or weak structures, check road and traffic conditions, refrain from unnecessary travel, and follow any additional guidance issued by relevant agencies.
