Englands Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt Out for Next Two Matches Due to Injury

Southampton, June 18: England’s captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of the next two matches in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to a strain in her left calf. The injury occurred during a Group B match against Ireland at The Rose Bowl on Tuesday evening.

Vice-captain Charlie Dean will lead the team in the upcoming matches against Scotland at Headingley on Saturday and against the West Indies at Lord’s on June 24.

The 33-year-old Sciver-Brunt experienced discomfort in her calf while scoring 48 runs in England’s four-wicket victory. After the match, she stated that the decision to retire hurt was made as a precaution.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday, “During the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup group match against Ireland, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt sustained a muscle strain in her left calf, the same area that had previously been injured.”

The board further stated, “Following scans and examinations by the England medical team on Wednesday, she will not be available for the next two matches against Scotland and the West Indies. The medical team will continue to monitor her condition as she undergoes rehabilitation while remaining part of the team.”

Sciver-Brunt’s calf injury raises concerns for the host nation, England, who started their campaign with two consecutive victories. She had previously missed six weeks of cricket due to a minor calf injury in April, which kept her out of the white-ball series against New Zealand and India.

With Sciver-Brunt absent for the next two matches, it is likely that Sophia Dunkley will bat at number three. Amy Jones or Alice Capsy may also be considered for that position.
