U.S. and Iran to Hold Talks in Switzerland Following Peace Deal

Zurich, June 18: Following the signing of a peace deal in France, further discussions will take place in Switzerland. The Swiss Foreign Ministry has announced this development.

According to the Swiss government, initial talks between the U.S. and Iran are set for Friday at the mountain resort of Bergenstock in Switzerland. This meeting comes just a day after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Tehran and Washington.

The ministry’s statement indicates, “The plan remains that the U.S. and Iran will meet tomorrow in Bergenstock, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, as well as other relevant countries, to initiate discussions on the implementation of the agreement.”

No additional details about the meeting’s agenda or other specifics have been provided by the ministry.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei mentioned that following the signatures from President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pageikian, there will not be a face-to-face signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Switzerland.

An interim agreement was signed to end the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran. This agreement was finalized on Wednesday night at the Palace of Versailles in France, where U.S. President Donald Trump signed the MOU, with French President Emmanuel Macron also in attendance.

Subsequently, Iranian President Masoud Pageikian electronically signed on behalf of Iran.

The agreement includes a commitment to halt military actions in Iran and Lebanon, as well as reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the U.S. naval blockade.

Originally, the signing of this agreement was scheduled for June 19 near Lucerne, Switzerland, but it was finalized a day earlier.
