Mumbai, June 18: Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a conversation, Dalwai questioned the benefits of such commendation, stating, “What good is this praise? You only commend the Prime Minister while imposing higher taxes here. When goods are imported, they incur heavy taxes. You take things away for free. The Prime Minister should raise these issues. Our sailors are affected; what about them? If such questions are raised, then there will be no praise. Why is there praise? Because no questions are being asked.”
Regarding reports of Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs leaving the party, Dalwai noted that five individuals have already departed, and the sixth is also unaccounted for. He stated, “If you want to leave, resign and contest elections on a BJP ticket. Why don’t they have the courage to do that? People voted for you thinking you would remain with Shiv Sena, and you are breaking that trust. This is nothing but deception. Such politics is entirely wrong.”
Dalwai remarked, “Different people have varying opinions about the changes in the working style of Uddhav and Balasaheb. Earlier, people were afraid, but now they are not; some are saying this. However, I believe Uddhav is functioning according to the Constitution and in a democratic manner.”
He emphasized that the government is trying to impose its will through such actions and is attempting to break different opposition parties. “But let me be clear, there is absolutely no rift in Congress. The party is very strong, and people believe that ultimately Congress will deliver results. The Maha Vikas Aghadi will remain united, and the 2029 elections will be contested under this alliance. The BJP knows it cannot come to power in 2029 under any circumstances, which is why such attempts to break and destabilize are being made.”
In response to Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s statement, Dalwai commented, “I think this is just his habit of creating panic or fear. With elections approaching, this is a strategy to weaken the Samajwadi Party. They harbor thoughts of one-party rule, which goes against the Constitution and democratic values. Their statements reveal their undemocratic mindset. Such thinking has been part of the RSS ideology since 1925. However, I do not believe the people of this country will accept it.”
