
New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced the squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, which includes three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 matches. Harry Brook will captain the team in both formats, while Jamie Overton makes his return after missing the white-ball series against India due to injury.
In a notable addition, opener Aneurin Donald has been selected for the T20 International squad for the first time. Meanwhile, Henry Crocombe has received his maiden call-up for the ODI team. Overton’s comeback marks a significant moment for the player, who had to sit out the previous series due to an injury.
Sam Curran and Phil Salt will not participate in this series due to injuries, and Jacob Bethell is currently rehabilitating after successful knee surgery. Crocombe has been on England’s radar for some time, having joined the team as a backup for Ollie Robinson during the second Test against New Zealand. The 24-year-old has taken 49 wickets in 36 List A matches, showcasing impressive bowling skills.
Aneurin Donald’s recent performance in the T20 Blast for Derbyshire has been outstanding. He scored 489 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 230, including four half-centuries. Since making his T20 debut in 2015, Donald has accumulated 2,423 runs in this format, featuring 18 half-centuries.
England recently excelled in their white-ball series against India at home, winning the T20 International series 4-0 and clinching the ODI series 2-1. The T20 series against Sri Lanka will kick off on September 15, with the second match on September 17 and the final T20 on September 19. The ODI series will commence on September 22, followed by the second ODI on September 24 and the third ODI on September 27.
