Ahmedabad, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Central Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the ‘World Archery Para Series Ahmedabad 2026′ via video conferencing on September 4. This international event will take place from September 5 to 9, featuring 108 athletes from 19 countries.
During the inauguration, Minister Shah described the competition as a memorable opportunity for both the athletes and the city of Ahmedabad. Archers from nations including Bhutan, the UK, China, Bangladesh, France, Germany, Indonesia, and the United States are participating.
Welcoming the athletes to India, Shah highlighted the country’s foundational principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which translates to “the world is one family.” He expressed confidence that in the coming years, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and India will emerge as major hubs in the sports world.
Shah assured that the sports facilities being developed in Ahmedabad will meet international standards, benefiting both Indian and international athletes. He envisioned India becoming a center for training in various sports, as well as for the production of sports facilities and equipment.
Moreover, he expressed hope that the country would establish itself as a global leader in sports engineering and sports medical science, becoming a key player in treating and rehabilitating sports-related injuries. The minister emphasized that the upcoming sports center will offer coaching and training facilities that adhere to international standards, serving as a major training hub for athletes worldwide.
Shah noted that Gujarat has hosted nearly ten international sporting events in 2025 and 2026, providing participating athletes with a chance to experience Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and India.
He also mentioned Ahmedabad’s future sports calendar, highlighting that the 2030 Commonwealth Games will mark its 100th edition, proudly hosted by the city. Additionally, he revealed that Ahmedabad has bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, expressing confidence that the event will take place there.
Shah remarked, “A champion is not made solely through sports, practice, and coaching but through the athlete’s desire to win.” He described the series as a prestigious test of archers’ focus, setting new standards of excellence. He reiterated that this event would showcase Ahmedabad’s capability to host global sports events and emphasized India’s commitment to creating a robust sports ecosystem.
He concluded by stating that the nation’s goal should not be limited to winning medals but should focus on strengthening all sports involved in major international competitions, including the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and police games. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India aims to build a comprehensive sports ecosystem.
