Dubai, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : India will take on Pakistan in the ninth match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 on Saturday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian team aims to uphold its impressive record against Pakistan.
So far, India has had a stellar tournament. After defeating Thailand in their opening match, the team went on to crush Hong Kong by 137 runs. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma have been in exceptional form, with Mandhana scoring a century against Hong Kong and Verma contributing a half-century against Thailand.
Expectations are high for players like Pratika Rawal, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and Deepti Sharma to deliver strong performances in this crucial match. Richa Ghosh could also be a key player; she was promoted to bat at number four against Hong Kong but managed only 11 runs.
On the bowling front, Deepti Sharma and Nandini Sharma have been impressive. Deepti has taken six wickets in two matches, while Nandini has claimed five. Shree Charani and Prema Rawat have also made notable contributions with the ball.
Pakistan, on the other hand, started their Asia Cup campaign with a 35-run victory over Thailand. Muniba Ali stood out with a half-century, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to score runs. In bowling, Sadia Iqbal made a mark by taking three wickets for just 11 runs, while Tuba Hassan also secured two wickets.
Historically, India and Pakistan have faced each other 17 times in T20 internationals, with India winning 14 matches and Pakistan claiming just three victories. Their last encounter was during the Women’s T20 World Cup, where India triumphed by 64 runs.
The pitch at the Dubai International Stadium has favored spin bowlers, but batsmen have also shown their capability to perform once settled at the crease.
