Eight Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murder of Bihar ASI

Munger, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : A court in Munger, Bihar, delivered a significant ruling on Monday, sentencing eight individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar Singh. The incident occurred during a dispute in a village while Singh was attempting to maintain peace during the Holi festival.

District and Additional Sessions Judge Kumari Manisha also imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on each convict. Should they fail to pay, an additional six months of imprisonment will be added to their sentences. All convicted individuals have been remanded to jail.

Public Prosecutor Sanjay Kumar Singh confirmed that the court found the defendants guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 103(1), 117(2), and 118(2). The sentences will run concurrently.

The tragic event took place in March 2025 in Nandlalpur village, under the jurisdiction of the Muffasil police station. On Holi, a dispute involving local resident Pradeep Kumar arose, prompting ASI Singh to respond to the situation alongside a Dial-112 police team.

Later that evening, around 7:30 PM, Singh returned to the village after receiving reports of another altercation. According to the prosecution, when he arrived at the home of an individual named Ranveer to mediate, the accused attacked him with sticks, iron rods, and sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

Singh was first taken to a local hospital but was later referred to Paras Hospital in Patna due to his deteriorating condition, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

An FIR was registered at Muffasil police station based on the statement of Constable Deepak Kumar, who was present at the scene. The trial was expedited, lasting approximately one and a half years, during which the prosecution presented twelve witnesses.

After reviewing the arguments and evidence from both sides, the court found all eight defendants guilty. The individuals sentenced to life imprisonment include Ranveer Kumar, Ranjit Kumar, Raju Kumar, Guddu Kumar, Vikas Kumar, Rekha Devi, Sarita Devi, and Mausam Kumari.

The public prosecutor highlighted the court’s decision to impose both life sentences and fines on all eight convicts following the sentencing hearing.
