Srinagar, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : A serious accident occurred in Srinagar on Thursday when a car collided with an electric pole, leaving eight workers injured. The incident took place in the outskirts of the city, specifically in the Pirbagh area. Among the injured, three individuals are reported to be in critical condition.
According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle before the crash. The injured were promptly transported to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for treatment. The critically injured have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad, Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, and Tanveer Ahmad Khan. Zahoor, 27, is a resident of Kupwara, while Ishfaq is from Beerwah in Budgam, and 19-year-old Tanveer is also from Kupwara.
As of now, there has been no information regarding the cause of the accident or any police action taken. In Jammu and Kashmir, it is noted that 90% of road accidents are attributed to human errors and risky driving behaviors.
These risky practices include using mobile phones, texting, eating, or adjusting the radio, which distract drivers from the road. Speeding beyond the limit or failing to adjust speed according to conditions reduces reaction time and increases the severity of accidents.
Driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or medications that impair cognitive ability can slow reflexes and diminish decision-making skills. Additionally, navigating through traffic at high speeds, following too closely, and ignoring traffic signals can create immediate hazards. Fatigue or drowsiness, especially during long trips, also contributes to accidents.
