New Delhi, March 28: On the occasion of Earth Hour, all lights were turned off for one hour at the residences of the Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was seen personally switching off unnecessary lights at his residence.
In Rajasthan, the Chief Minister’s office and residence also participated in Earth Hour by shutting down electricity from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday night. During this hour, all lights and equipment were turned off, and staff worked by candlelight.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Dhami shared on the social media platform X that he turned off all unnecessary lights at his official residence from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM to participate in this global environmental initiative.
He added that this initiative reminds us of our responsibility towards nature and strengthens our commitment to energy conservation, environmental balance, and a secure future for upcoming generations. He urged everyone to pledge towards nature conservation and fulfill the duty of being responsible citizens.
Additionally, numerous historic buildings and government offices in Delhi also turned off their lights. Iconic sites such as India Gate and Akshardham Temple participated by switching off lights for one hour.
This action is part of Earth Hour 2026, which encourages individuals and organizations to turn off unnecessary lights to raise awareness about climate change and environmental protection.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Earth Hour, themed “Give an Hour for Earth,” encouraging people to dedicate one hour to the planet. The campaign is organized annually by the World Wildlife Fund and began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. It is now celebrated in over 190 countries worldwide.
During this hour, many famous buildings, public places, and homes across India and the globe turned off their lights to draw attention to environmental conservation.
Environmental experts emphasize that Earth Hour is not just a symbolic event; it serves as a reminder for us to save energy and work together to protect the environment.
