New Delhi, April 1: U.S. President Trump has made a significant claim regarding a ceasefire with Iran. He addressed the request from the “new regime’s president” and reiterated conditions for a ceasefire on his Truth Social platform.
Trump stated, “The new president of Iran, less radical than the former one and much more sensible, has just asked the United States for a ceasefire!”
In his characteristic style, Trump emphasized the conditions, saying, “We will consider this when the Strait of Hormuz is opened and is safer. Until then, our military actions against Iran will continue, and they will face devastation. As they say, we are taking them back to the Stone Age!”
It remains unclear from Trump’s post which “new regime” he is referring to. Earlier this week, some U.S. media outlets claimed that Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was in talks with the U.S., although he has not been appointed president.
On Wednesday, Iran’s current president, Masoud Pezeshkian, who has held the position since 2024, stated that Iran is ready to accept a ceasefire but only if security guarantees are provided. The post also indicates that Trump has shifted his stance regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, he threatened to bomb Iran’s energy sites if Tehran did not allow all ships to pass safely through the Strait. However, on Tuesday, he suggested multiple times that the U.S. is prepared to end the war without resolving this issue and encouraged other nations to step in to help find a solution.
