Drone Didis: Empowering Rural Women in Nuh with Modern Agriculture

Nuh, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Drone Didi initiative is making significant strides in empowering rural women in Nuh, Haryana, by connecting them with modern agricultural technologies. This government program not only provides employment opportunities but also fosters self-reliance among women. Laxmi, a resident of Basai Khanzada village, has benefited greatly from this scheme, becoming proficient in drone operation and generating income through this innovative approach.

District Commissioner Akhil Pilani stated that the local administration is actively working to ensure eligible women benefit from government programs that promote modern technology and self-employment. Initiatives like Drone Didi are creating new job opportunities for women in their villages and surrounding areas, enabling them to contribute significantly to the agricultural sector.

Laxmi, who completed her education up to the 12th grade, joined a self-help group under the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission nearly nine years ago. Her active participation in group meetings and various livelihood activities led her to receive drone pilot training under the Drone Didi initiative in January 2024.

After successfully completing her training, Laxmi was provided with an agricultural drone by Garuda Aerospace. She now sprays pesticides and fertilizers on farmers’ fields using the drone. Laxmi has been working in about 8 to 10 neighboring villages, completing tasks that previously took four to five laborers a full day in just 30 to 40 minutes. This efficiency saves both time and costs for the farmers.

The drone operation has become a new source of income for Laxmi. In 2025, she earned approximately 60,000 rupees, and so far in 2026, she has made around 75,000 rupees. The training and subsequent employment have strengthened her financial situation and enhanced her status in the community.

Reflecting on her journey, Laxmi shared that she previously had no stable source of income and felt confined to her home. After receiving drone training and starting her spraying work, she became known as “Drone Didi” in nearby villages.

Laxmi expressed that this opportunity has significantly boosted her confidence. She is now able to contribute financially to her family’s needs. She credited the Drone Didi initiative for not only providing employment but also for instilling confidence and respect within her community.

She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Haryana government, and the district administration, emphasizing that rural women can achieve self-reliance by embracing modern technology. Laxmi believes that such initiatives not only create job opportunities but also play a crucial role in strengthening families’ economic conditions and modernizing the agricultural sector.
