New Delhi, 30 December. The cricket contests between Australia and New Zealand have always been intense across formats. However, in Test cricket, Australia has dominated New Zealand for over a decade and a half. Since 2011, New Zealand had not managed a Test victory over Australia until the last memorable series. The all-rounder who played a key role in that historic win, Doug Bracewell, has now announced his retirement from all formats of cricket.

New Zealand Cricket confirmed Doug Bracewell’s retirement through their official social media channels.

At 35 years old, Bracewell made his international debut in 2011 across all three formats against Zimbabwe. His finest performance came in the same year on Australian soil during New Zealand’s tour of Australia for a two-match Test series. New Zealand lost the first Test by 9 wickets in Brisbane but bounced back in the second Test at Hobart.

In that Hobart Test, Bracewell delivered a memorable performance by taking a total of 9 wickets in both innings – 3 wickets in the first innings and 6 in the second. His bowling played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s narrow 7-run victory, which helped level the series. New Zealand Cricket’s official account highlighted this achievement while wishing Bracewell well for his future.

Bracewell’s career saw several ups and downs as he moved in and out of the national team. His last international appearance was a Test match against Sri Lanka in March 2023.

Between 2011 and 2023, Bracewell represented New Zealand in 28 Tests, 21 One Day Internationals, and 20 T20 Internationals. His career statistics include 568 runs and 74 wickets in Tests, 221 runs and 26 wickets in ODIs, and 126 runs with 20 wickets in T20Is.
