New Delhi, July 29: The West Indies showcased an impressive performance by defeating Pakistan by 90 runs in the first Test. Despite this victory, the Caribbean team remains in eighth place on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
So far, the West Indies have played a total of 11 matches in this WTC cycle, securing victories in only 2, while suffering losses in 7. Their win percentage now stands at 22.73. On the other hand, this marks Pakistan’s fourth loss in their fifth match, leaving them with a dismal win percentage of just 6.67, placing them at the bottom of the points table.
Australia leads the WTC points table with an impressive record of 7 wins out of 8 Test matches, boasting a win percentage of 87.50. South Africa follows in second place with 3 wins from 4 matches, achieving a win percentage of 75. New Zealand ranks third with 4 wins and 1 loss from 6 matches. Bangladesh holds the fourth position with a win percentage of 58.33, while India is in fifth place with 4 wins from 9 matches and a win percentage of 48.15.
Chasing a target of 211 runs set by the West Indies, Pakistan’s entire team collapsed for just 120 runs in their second innings. Eight of their batsmen failed to reach double figures. Captain Babar Azam top-scored with 58 runs but lacked support from the rest of the batting lineup.
In bowling, Jayden Seales was outstanding for the Caribbean team, taking 5 wickets for just 20 runs. Kemar Roach and Justin Greaves each claimed 2 wickets. The West Indies were all out for 181 runs in their second innings, having scored 311 runs in the first innings, while Pakistan managed 282 runs in response. With this victory, the West Indies have taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
