Glasgow, July 29: Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur delivered an impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, securing a silver medal for her country. Competing in the 69-kilogram category, she lifted a total of 227 kilograms.
Harjinder started strong, successfully lifting 101 kilograms in the snatch round. She then excelled in the clean and jerk round, lifting 126 kilograms to clinch the silver medal. After her victory, Harjinder expressed her joy in an exclusive interview, stating, “I am extremely happy to win the silver medal and with my performance. During training, I lifted more than this in the clean and jerk round, but I am still satisfied with my performance. I feel good that I passed all six of my lifts.”
The Indian weightlifter added, “I came here with the intention of changing the color of my medal this time, and I aimed to perform well in lifting. I did well today. I want to dedicate this medal to my family. They, along with the Indian Weightlifting Federation, have supported me immensely, and that is why we have reached this point. Whenever I win a medal, I call my mother first, and today was no different. She had been feeling down due to my competition, but she congratulated me on winning the medal.”
Canada’s Charlotte Simonyu won the gold medal by lifting a total of 240 kilograms, with 108 kilograms in the snatch and 132 kilograms in the clean and jerk. Australia’s Nya Phoebe Hemman secured the bronze medal, lifting a total of 218 kilograms (97 kilograms in the snatch and 121 kilograms in the clean and jerk).
