New Delhi, July 29: On the sixth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026, India celebrated the achievement of two silver medals. Women’s weightlifter Harjinder Kaur lifted a total of 227 kilograms to secure her silver medal, while Gulveer Singh made history in the men’s 10,000-meter race by earning another silver for the nation. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan congratulated both athletes on their remarkable performances.
The Vice President took to social media platform X to express his admiration, stating, “Congratulations to Harjinder Kaur for winning silver in the women’s 69 kg weightlifting event and to Gulveer Singh for his silver in the men’s 10,000-meter race at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. Your outstanding performances have elevated the nation’s pride. Harjinder’s determination and Gulveer’s historic achievement as India’s first Commonwealth Games medalist in the 10,000-meter event will inspire countless young athletes. Wishing you both continued success and many more achievements in the future.”
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his congratulations to both athletes. He wrote on X, “Historic and exemplary. Congratulations to Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh for winning silver in the men’s 10,000-meter race at the Commonwealth Games 2026. This achievement is particularly special as he became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in this event. While congratulating Harjinder, the Defence Minister added, “Another medal for India in weightlifting. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also praised both Indian athletes. He wrote on his X platform, “Onward to the podium.
