New Delhi, July 29: Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has received relief from the Delhi High Court concerning his personality rights. The court has issued a notice regarding the matter, with the next hearing scheduled for November 30.
The Delhi High Court stated that it would issue an interim order to protect Yuvraj’s personality rights. Additionally, the court has directed the removal of all objectionable posts about Yuvraj from social media, along with any content shared without his permission, within the next 48 hours.
Judge Jyoti Singh, presiding over the case, announced this decision. Yuvraj’s lawyer presented a list of links to objectionable posts made about the former cricketer, noting that two of these links have already been removed. The lawyer argued that Yuvraj’s personality traits are being exploited for financial gain without his consent.
One of the infringing links was related to Reddit, where Yuvraj was accused of using offensive language against women, along with derogatory comments made about him. The lawyer representing Reddit claimed that the link was two years old and argued that it was a case of defamation, not a violation of personality rights.
Justice Singh has registered the case and issued a notice on the interim injunction application. The mediators involved in the case must submit their responses within three weeks. The court stated that it would order the uploader of the content to remove the link within 48 hours. If the uploader fails to comply, the court will allow Yuvraj to seek assistance from mediators to remove it within 36 hours.
