Chennai, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) launched a strong attack on the Tamil Nadu ruling party, TVK, accusing it of operating as “slaves of the BJP.” This accusation arose after separate cases were filed against Lok Sabha MP A. Raja and former Tamil Nadu minister P.K. Sekar Babu for allegedly making derogatory comments about Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Earlier, DMK MP Raja had retracted his comments following backlash. DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Ilangovan remarked, “In politics, people criticize others. They are filing cases against this criticism.” He pointed out that when opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin questioned the Chief Minister about actions taken against criminals in Tamil Nadu, there was no response. “Even when he did respond, he didn’t mention this issue, indicating that his aim isn’t to arrest criminals but to target political leaders, especially DMK leaders,” Ilangovan stated.
He referenced the arrest of Udhayanidhi Stalin on August 4 for allegedly making derogatory remarks about women, although he was released the same day. Ilangovan further criticized TVK, claiming, “They are slaves of the BJP because the BJP is anti-DMK; thus, they want to act according to BJP’s directives.”
The controversy escalated when the opposition party accused Chief Minister Vijay and Law Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar of disrespecting the sacrifices made by DMK leaders and those imprisoned during the Emergency. Senior DMK leaders P.K. Sekar Babu and R.S. Bharti condemned the Chief Minister during protests across various regions in Tamil Nadu.
However, Raja’s remarks targeting CM Vijay and Nirmal Kumar sparked a new political dispute, diverting attention from DMK’s allegations against the government. Several TVK officials and ministers condemned the MP’s comments, labeling them personal, derogatory, and unbecoming of a senior parliamentarian.
