New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions have escalated following remarks made by Karnataka Congress President B.K. Hariprasad, who referred to former JNU student Umar Khalid, currently imprisoned, as a nationalist. Vinod Bansal, spokesperson for the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), has sharply criticized the Congress party, stating that their tendency to label terrorists as patriots reflects a troubling mindset.
In an interview in New Delhi, Bansal expressed that the statements from Congress leaders repeatedly reveal the party’s mentality. He accused them of making comments that seem to promote anti-Hindu sentiments and appeasement politics. According to Bansal, such rhetoric often aligns with a pro-terrorist and pro-Pakistan viewpoint. He noted that the statements of various Congress leaders have even been cited in international forums to support Pakistan’s position against India.
Bansal emphasized that Hariprasad’s remarks are not an isolated incident but indicative of a broader issue within the party. He recalled how Sonia Gandhi reportedly struggled to sleep after the death of a terrorist, underscoring the party’s alleged disconnect with national sentiments.
He urged Congress to engage in self-reflection, stating that the party must confront its perceived anti-national image.
Addressing comments made by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Bansal remarked that those who invoke the Constitution while stirring up communal tensions are often labeled as incendiaries. He pointed out that while the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was not mentioned by the Home Minister or others, it has been used to incite unrest.
Bansal argued that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was mischaracterized, claiming it did not threaten any Muslim’s citizenship, yet it sparked widespread violence across the country. He asserted that the public is aware of the facts and that misleading narratives have led to chaos.
The VHP spokesperson concluded by highlighting that five states have already passed the UCC, with two states implementing it, including Uttarakhand, where no rights of Muslims have been infringed.
