New Delhi, April 18: The Women’s Reservation Bill faced a setback in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta criticized the opposition for this failure. She stated that the events in the Lok Sabha are painful and disappointing for every woman who hopes for her rights and dignity.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Gupta expressed her dismay, emphasizing that the outcome was disheartening for women advocating for their rights. She highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to empowering women through the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which she described as a historic and transformative step. However, she condemned the opposition’s actions as a direct injustice to women’s rights.
As a female chief minister, Gupta stressed that this issue transcends politics; it is about empathy and respect. She lamented that millions of women in the country have been denied the opportunity to participate in decision-making processes.
This is not the first instance where the Congress and its allies have obstructed women’s rights. Gupta pointed out that their actions reveal a lack of genuine intent towards women’s empowerment. She expressed confidence that women across the nation are aware of these injustices and will not let them go unchallenged.
In her post, she reaffirmed that the Delhi government remains fully committed to women’s empowerment and development led by women.
The 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill was not passed in the Lok Sabha on Friday. During the voting, 298 MPs supported the bill, while 230 opposed it, leading to its failure.
