New Delhi, April 18: In a significant move towards creating a clean, green, and pollution-free Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 200 new electric buses on Friday at the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depot in East Vinod Nagar.
According to an official statement, the addition of these buses has increased the total number of buses in the capital to over 6,300, with more than 4,500 being electric. This milestone has positioned Delhi as the city with the highest number of electric buses in the country.
The Chief Minister stated that the government’s goal is to increase the bus fleet to approximately 14,000 by 2028-29. These buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking, and facilities for differently-abled individuals.
On this occasion, the inter-state e-bus service between Delhi and Rohtak was also launched, the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal was dedicated to the public, and the newly constructed administrative building at the depot was inaugurated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is rapidly promoting electric mobility to make the capital pollution-free. She noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country and Delhi are continuously advancing towards new heights of development.
The event was attended by Delhi’s Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, senior officials from the relevant departments, and other dignitaries.
The Chief Minister remarked that every initiative by the Delhi government aims to provide citizens with better connectivity, a cleaner environment, and modern transportation facilities. She highlighted that Friday was a special day as four major projects were inaugurated simultaneously.
She also mentioned that a significant number of the new buses are ‘Devi’ buses, designed to reach remote and narrow lanes, thereby enhancing public transport accessibility.
Furthermore, the launch of the Delhi-Rohtak inter-state bus service will strengthen regional connectivity. The Chief Minister described the inauguration of the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal as an important facility for passengers, which will streamline transportation services.
She also noted the significance of the newly built administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar depot, stating that improved facilities enhance employee efficiency. This building is equipped with biometric systems and health check-up facilities to ensure that drivers operate buses in safe and healthy conditions, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidents.
