Celebrating Mukesh Rishi: The Iconic Villain of Indian Cinema Turns 70

New Delhi, April 18: Renowned Indian actor Mukesh Rishi will celebrate his 70th birthday on April 19. Born on April 19, 1956, in a small village in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, Rishi is a name synonymous with the notorious villains of Bollywood. From the 1990s to the early 2000s, he starred in numerous blockbuster films. Besides playing antagonistic roles, he has also portrayed several positive characters throughout his career.

Mukesh’s father was a businessman who hoped his son would join the family business. However, Mukesh had other aspirations. He struggled to focus on his studies and had a passion for cricket, even captaining the Punjab University cricket team. Eventually, his father moved to Mumbai and established his business there. After college, Mukesh began assisting his father but found little satisfaction in it.

Seeking a change, Mukesh moved to Fiji, where he worked in a departmental store. It was there that he met Keshni, whom he later married. While in Fiji, Mukesh also dabbled in modeling. Encouraged by friends to pursue acting, he decided to follow his passion after his father’s passing, asking his brother to take over the family business. He enrolled in an acting school to hone his craft and made his film debut in 1993 with Yash Chopra’s “Parampara.”

Mukesh has acted in films across various languages, including Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. His notable Hindi films include “Parampara,” “Baazi,” “Loafer,” “Ghatak,” “Vinashak,” “Lal Badshah,” “Sarfarosh,” “Sooryavansham,” “Kurukshetra,” “Dham,” “Gharv,” and “Mere Husband Ki Biwi.” In Telugu, he has appeared in “Indra,” “Okkadu,” “Bunny,” “Arya 2,” and “Maharshi,” while his Tamil credits include “Vallarasu” and “Singham 2.”

On the personal front, Mukesh Rishi is married to Keshni, and they have a son and a daughter. His son, Raghav Rishi, has followed in his father’s footsteps as an actor and producer, making his industry debut in 2019 with “The Great Indian Escape.” Their daughter is a musician.
