Shimla, June 6: A significant milestone in rail connectivity was achieved in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. A direct train service has been inaugurated from Amb Andaura railway station in Una district to Kolkata, West Bengal. Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur flagged off the Gurumukhi Superfast Express (Train No. 12325/12326) for its extended route.
This new train service will provide residents of Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, and surrounding areas with a better and more convenient option for traveling to Eastern India. It is also expected to boost religious, educational, commercial, and tourism activities in the region. The event was attended by a large number of local citizens, railway officials, and public representatives.
On this occasion, MP Anurag Thakur stated that this is a historic gift from the central government to Himachal Pradesh. He noted that Una is the only district in the state fully connected to the broad gauge rail network. Over the past years, several important train services have been extended to this area due to the efforts of the central government, greatly benefiting both residents and pilgrims visiting various religious sites.
According to railway officials, the Gurumukhi Superfast Express will depart from Amb Andaura every Saturday at 6:10 AM and will reach Kolkata in approximately 31 hours and 50 minutes. On its return journey, the train will leave Kolkata every Thursday at 7:40 AM and arrive back at Amb Andaura on Friday at 4:55 PM. This service will pass through major stations including Asansol, Patna Junction, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Saharanpur.
Anurag Thakur also mentioned that efforts will be made to operate several trains from Una to Ambala and Chandigarh in the future. He emphasized that the central government is continuously working to expand and modernize rail facilities in the state.
During the event, MP Anurag Thakur commented on the political situation in the state. Referring to allegations made by Congress leader Neeraj Bharti against the state government, he remarked that issues previously dismissed as political rhetoric by the BJP are now being questioned by Congress leaders and officials regarding the government’s functioning. He accused the current Himachal Pradesh government of crossing all limits of corruption and mismanagement, expressing that the public is disillusioned with the government’s performance.
