Mumbai, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has adjusted the date for his ‘Aura India Tour’ concert in Delhi. This decision has been met with appreciation from Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjeet Singh Sahni.
Originally scheduled for November 1, the concert now takes place on October 30. The change was made to honor the sensitivities surrounding the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which coincide with the original date. Following appeals from the Punjabi Promotion Council and other representatives, Dosanjh decided to shift the event.
Sahni expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking Dosanjh for respecting the feelings of the victims and their families. He wrote, “A heartfelt thank you to Diljit Dosanjh for agreeing to our request not to perform in Delhi on November 1. This date marks the tragic anniversary of the anti-Sikh riots in 1984, and the concert will now be on October 30.”
He further praised Dosanjh, calling him a true son of Punjab and a global icon who inspires millions. Sahni noted that Dosanjh’s sensitivity towards the victims demonstrates his sense of responsibility and compassion, even at such a high level of success. “May he continue to bring pride to Punjab and India,” Sahni added.
November 1, 1984, is remembered as one of the darkest days in the history of Indian Sikhs and Punjabis. It marks the day after the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, which sparked widespread violence against Sikhs in Delhi and other areas, leading to horrific riots, killings, arson, and looting.
