New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has revealed that he recently spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The discussions focused on the current state of the energy sector and the rapidly evolving situation in Ukraine amid the ongoing war. Carney urged adherence to a proposed energy ceasefire agreement, facilitated by the U.S., between Russia and Ukraine.
In a post on the social media platform X, Carney stated, “This morning, I had conversations with President Trump and President Zelensky. We discussed the conditions surrounding the energy sector and the fast-changing dynamics of the war in Ukraine. The new energy ceasefire initiative, mediated by President Trump, could significantly reduce tensions and prevent harm to thousands of civilians.”
He further emphasized, “Canada calls on Russia to comply with this agreement. We will continue to work with our allied nations to ensure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and Europe.”
President Trump announced the energy ceasefire on Sunday, claiming that both Russia and Ukraine had agreed to this new measure. He shared this information on the social media platform Truth Social.
In his post, Trump wrote, “An energy ceasefire has now been implemented in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides have agreed to this. Do not break it.”
The White House echoed Trump’s announcement, confirming the immediate implementation of the energy ceasefire in the conflict.
Earlier, President Zelensky indicated that Ukraine is prepared to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries if Russia ceases its assaults on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Notably, Trump had attributed rising diesel prices in the U.S. to Ukraine’s attacks on Russian refineries and urged Zelensky to stop these strikes. He also suggested that it might be time for Ukraine to consider a change in leadership, claiming Zelensky had missed several opportunities for peace with Russia.
