New Town, August 25: Minister Dilip Ghosh has responded to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks regarding the census and immigration issues. Speaking to reporters, Ghosh stated, “Tell the former Chief Minister to sit quietly in Kalighat. The nationwide census began in June 2025. Why hasn’t it started in Bengal? Why was it halted without consulting anyone? The census is essential for planning and ensuring facilities for the people.”
He emphasized that the current government has authorized the census as part of its responsibilities, which is being conducted by government employees, not by the opposition.
Addressing the issue of immigration, Ghosh expressed serious concerns about the influx of immigrants from Bangladesh and other countries. He claimed that many have allegedly acquired citizenship, voter IDs, and Aadhaar cards, thereby infringing on the rights of genuine residents and creating law and order problems.
Ghosh remarked, “It is challenging to manage Bengal from Delhi. Therefore, the state government has been empowered to oversee matters related to citizenship and other issues. I believe the state government will handle this situation effectively. The problems stemming from immigration in Bengal will gradually diminish.”
Regarding TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s appeal to the Supreme Court against 20 rebel MPs, Ghosh stated, “They can go to the Supreme Court; that is their matter. We have nothing to do with it.”
On Arvind Kejriwal’s meeting concerning E-20, Ghosh questioned, “Who will Kejriwal meet, and who is with him? Experts will look into this matter. Why does Kejriwal involve himself in every issue? He should focus on saving his government in Punjab first.”
