Kolkata, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Minister Dilip Ghosh of West Bengal has reacted sharply to the Election Commission‘s decision to freeze the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) name and election symbol. He criticized former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that the TMC is in a state of disarray, effectively destroying itself through internal conflicts.
Ghosh remarked, “The TMC is fighting among themselves and has been rejected by the public. Their accounts have been frozen.” He pointed out that the party’s office, which was reportedly located in a private residence, has also been vacated. He noted that TMC MPs have shifted to other parties, leaving Banerjee isolated. “This is not how a party can function. They have nothing left; all documents are with the Election Commission, which will make the final decision,” he added.
Regarding the Calcutta High Court‘s permission for Banerjee to hold a rally in Shrirampur, Ghosh asserted, “Mamata Banerjee should comply with the court’s orders. During her tenure, when we sought permission, we had to approach the court to hold our meetings.”
On the inclusion of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s biography in the state’s education curriculum, Ghosh emphasized Mukherjee’s significance as the founder of West Bengal. “He opposed Jinnah and fought for the separation from Pakistan. Efforts to erase his contributions from memory and change Bengal’s identity must be countered. Everyone should know about his legacy as an educator, revolutionary, social reformer, and administrator. He sacrificed his life for the nation’s integrity, and our future generations must learn about him,” he stated.
Commenting on Prime Minister Modi‘s remarks during Annapurna Day, Ghosh accused the state government of deceiving women under the guise of the ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme. He announced that the funds have been doubled to create an ‘Annapurna Bhandar’ instead, and highlighted recent honors given to women across various locations.
He reiterated that the respect and safety of women are paramount. In light of ongoing investigations into the RG Kar case, Ghosh confirmed that involved individuals have been suspended, promising further action to ensure women’s safety and dignity remains a top priority.
Addressing the arrest of Maoist leader Asim Mandal, alias Akash, Ghosh stated that both Maoist and Islamic terrorists previously sought refuge in Bengal, engaging in anti-national activities. “The previous government did nothing to address this issue, allowing them to operate freely. With the change in government, police actions and involvement of central agencies have intensified, bringing these criminals to justice.”
In response to the Calcutta High Court’s directive for the CBI to take strict action against illegal constructions, Ghosh condemned the social and anti-national activities that occurred under Banerjee’s administration. He criticized the lack of action against major corruption cases, claiming police inaction during her tenure. “With the change in government, investigations into large-scale scams and violence have commenced, which will boost local morale and restore public trust in the administration,” he concluded.
