New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed a powerful message about prosperity and virtue on September 18, 2026, by sharing a Sanskrit verse. Through this shloka, he highlighted the significance of noble individuals and their role in society.
The verse shared by PM Modi states, “स्वाधीनैव समृद्धिर्जनोपजीव्यत्वमुच्छ्रयश्छाया. सत्पुंसो मरुभूरिव जीवनमात्रं समाशास्यम्॥” which translates to “True prosperity is self-reliant, and being a support for others is genuine greatness.” The Prime Minister compared the rarity of shade and life in a desert to the noble person’s life, which is dedicated to altruism and public welfare.
This verse is the 133rd shloka from the 24th chapter titled ‘Praise of the Virtuous’ in the ‘Subhashitaratnabhandagara.’ It uses the metaphor of a desert to illustrate the qualities and life of a good person. This metaphor underscores the self-sufficiency of noble individuals and their utility to society.
The shloka emphasizes that the prosperity of a virtuous person is self-sustained, and their greatness lies in being helpful and supportive to others. Through this imagery, the utility of a noble person’s life is poignantly expressed.
