Prayagraj, March 26: On the auspicious occasion of Ashtami during Chaitra Navratri, thousands of devotees are arriving at the renowned Alopee Shankari Devi Temple in Prayagraj for darshan and worship. The influx of devotees began early in the morning, starting from Brahma Muhurat, and is expected to continue throughout the day and late into the night.
Special prayers and rituals are being organized at the temple on this holy day. A unique aspect of this Shakti Peeth is that it does not house a traditional idol of the goddess; instead, worship is offered to a mysterious swing (cradle). This distinctive feature sets the temple apart from others, with devotees reverently offering water, flowers, and other worship materials to the swing, which they regard as the embodiment of the goddess.
One devotee shared, “Today is Ashtami, and this temple holds immense significance. It is believed that the goddess manifested here, which is why it is known as Alopee Shankari. It is a major Shakti Peeth where people come from afar with their wishes.” They noted that hundreds of men and women have been arriving since morning for worship, and this flow will continue throughout the day.
Another devotee remarked, “Today is very special. Everyone is worshiping the goddess with great devotion and tranquility. We have come to pray for the prosperity and progress of our family and the entire nation.” The temple resonated with chants of “Jai Mata Di,” creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
A different devotee highlighted the temple’s uniqueness, stating, “Ashtami is the most important day of Navratri here. Instead of an idol, we worship the cradle, which symbolizes mystery and faith. This is why every devotee feels a special connection when they come here.” They added that devotees sincerely offer water, prasad, and other items.
On Ashtami, the ritual of Kanya Poojan also holds special significance. Many devotees in the temple premises perform this ritual to seek blessings. It is widely believed that every wish made with a pure heart on this day is fulfilled by the goddess, which explains the large turnout of people.
