
New Delhi, March 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences regarding the tragic road accident that occurred in Markapuram, Andhra Pradesh. He also announced financial assistance for the affected families, as reported by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
According to the PMO, Prime Minister Modi stated that the accident in Markapuram is extremely sorrowful. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
In his announcement, he mentioned that the National Relief Fund will provide a compensation of ₹2 lakh to the nearest relatives of each deceased victim. Additionally, the injured will receive ₹50,000.
Earlier, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the road accident in Markapuram. He conveyed his profound grief regarding the incident, where several passengers aboard a private bus were engulfed in flames following a collision with a truck.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office shared details on the social media platform ‘X’, stating that CM Naidu had spoken with officials to gather information about the accident. Officials informed him that the bus, operated by Harikrishna Travels, was en route from Nirmal in Telangana to Nellore. He instructed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident and to submit a report.
It is reported that on Thursday, a private travel bus collided with a tipper truck in Markapuram, leading to a fire. This horrific accident resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals, with 15 others injured.
The collision occurred near Rayavaram at approximately 6:30 AM, when the bus crashed into the truck close to a stone quarry. Both vehicles were completely consumed by the fire.
At the time of the accident, the Harikrishna Travels bus was carrying 35 passengers. The 15 injured passengers were admitted to the government hospital in Markapuram. The death toll may rise as some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. Among the deceased and injured are women and children. Ten passengers managed to escape the bus immediately after the fire broke out.
