Detroit Tigers Reassign Max Clark as Roster Decisions Heat Up

Detroit, March 9: The Detroit Tigers are actively refining their roster as Opening Day approaches, announcing several key moves involving young players on Monday morning.

According to a report from Evan Petzold, top outfield prospect Max Clark has been reassigned to minor league camp.

Clark’s reassignment was anticipated. Despite the excitement surrounding the 21-year-old outfielder, the Tigers never intended for him to join the big-league club this spring.

Clark’s Spring Training Performance

Clark participated in nine Grapefruit League games this spring, finishing with a batting average of .111 (2-for-18) and one RBI. While these numbers may not stand out, the Tigers’ decision was not primarily based on his performance. Clark remains one of the organization’s most esteemed prospects, currently ranked as Detroit’s No. 2 prospect.

At this stage in his development, the organization prefers that he gain everyday at-bats in the minor leagues rather than occupy a reserve role with the major league team.

Three Other Players Also Moved

Clark was not the only player affected by Monday’s roster adjustments. The Tigers also made the following moves:

  • Hao-Yu Lee — optioned to Triple-A Toledo
  • Eduardo Valencia — optioned to Triple-A Toledo
  • Thayron Liranzo — optioned to Double-A Erie

These moves are part of the routine roster trimming process during spring training as teams finalize their lineups ahead of Opening Day.

One Top Prospect Still in Camp

Despite the recent cuts, one highly regarded Tigers prospect remains with the big-league club for now. Kevin McGonigle is still in MLB spring training camp with 17 days remaining before Opening Day, offering fans another opportunity to witness one of the organization’s rising young talents.
